Successive metamagnetic transitions and magnetoresistance in the low-carrier-density strongly correlated electron system CeP

چکیده
Successive metamagnetic transitions in CeP are studied through magnetoresistance measurements up to 31.5 T over a wide temperature range between 0.7 and 44.1 K. As in previous papers, we find a series of transitions in field and temperature that constitute a phase diagram. However, we find the observed transitions not to be periodic in inverse field, and hence our results do not support previous models where the transitions are triggered by crossings of the upand down-spin Landau levels in a particular electronic energy band. The present phase diagram reveals a close similarity to that of CeSb, and its general features are satisfactorily explained with a simple thermodynamic model. @S0163-1829~98!01425-8#

Correlated-electron theory of strongly anisotropic metamagnets
Metamagnetic transitions in strongly anisotropic antiferromagnets are investigated within a quantum mechanical theory of correlated electrons. We employ the Hubbard model with staggered magnetization mst along an easy axis e in a magnetic field Hie. On the basis of the dynamical mean-field theory ~DMFT! this model is studied both analytically and numerically. At intermediate couplings the self-...
متن کاملMagnetic properties of correlated electrons
We analyze a system composed of itinerant electrons and localized spins with on-site interactions representing the Hund’s first rule. Properties of the system are studied rigorously on the infinite square lattice but the configurational space is restricted to the lowest-period phases only. Using exact expressions for the ground state energy an evolution of the phase diagram with an external mag...
متن کاملLocalization and Dephasing Driven by Magnetic Fluctuations in Low Carrier Density Colossal Magnetoresistance Materials
Localization and dephasing of conduction electrons in a low carrier density ferromagnet due to scattering on magnetic fluctuations is considered. We claim the existence of the ”mobility edge”, which separates the states with fast diffusion and the states with slow diffusion; the latter is determined by the dephasing time. When the ”mobility edge” crosses the Fermi energy a large and sharp chang...
متن کاملMetal-insulator transition in vanadium dioxide nanobeams: probing sub- domain properties of strongly correlated materials
Many strongly correlated electronic materials, including high-temperature superconductors, colossal magnetoresistance and metal-insulator-transition (MIT) materials, are inhomogeneous on a microscopic scale as a result of domain structure or compositional variations. An important potential advantage of nanoscale samples is that they exhibit the homogeneous properties, which can differ greatly f...

We discuss the role of the Mott transition in the strong correlation problem and describe new insights gained using dynamical mean field techniques (DMFT). 1. STRONGLY CORRELATED MATERIALS The last two decades has witnessed a revival in the study of strongly correlated electron systems. A large variety of transition metal compounds, rare earth and actinide based materials have been synthesized....
